Artist's Statement

My work is an effort to express the beauty of our world in contrast to things that only serve to detract.  Unapologetically impressionistic I paint in a way that showcases the tools i use, thick oil paint, large brushes, palet knives and the Golden Ratio. As a way to think about what I see, my smaller paintings are all done from life. I believe that if someone is inspired by a painting to observe nature a little more closely then we painters have done our job.

Biography

Abraham loved to draw as a young boy. By age 7 he was selected for the Iowa Schools "Gifted and Talented" program. Growing up in a construction family, his sketchbooks became his travel journal as he volunteered construction and disaster relief in places such as Zambia, Mexico, Guam, Peru, and the British Virgin Islands.

After developing a love of oil painting, he studied with esteemed artist Daniel E. Green (Portrait & Figurative in traditional oils), with William Scott Jennings and with friend and mentor James Poulson (Landscape painting from life.)

Abraham has been national recognized for his work on the Clear Lake Library Mural Project, winning the 1st place trophy award for Best Mural at Fauxcademy of Distinctive Finishes in Las Vegas,  NV.  Abraham is a juried member of Oil Painters of America, a selected artist in the "PaintAmerica Top 100" competition in 2008, and a Signature Bold Brush Artist.  His paintings have received some of the highest bids at fundraising events for the Francis Lauer Foundation. Abraham's paintings are in private and public collections around the US.
