Where contemporary meets the traditional. I’m all about the story. A lover of history. A lover of nature, of the people & creatures of the enduring landscape from the place I get to call home. I appreciate well crafted, beautiful objects. Made with love. These are the stories I love to tell in paint. And, importantly, I think 100 years ahead.
Each piece that leaves my studio has all the hallmarks of lasting craftsmanship, is well packed, accompanied by important documentation - signed & embossed, a hand written note, and lots of gratitude. I have big ideas, big dreams. And a spirited work ethic to see them through. Thanks for taking a look at my work - I’m doing everything I can to make sure you howl with delight at the thought of seeing your great grandkids wrestling exuberantly to the ground, earning the right to call ‘dibs!
Coila Evans is a celebrated western artist residing in Roundup, Montana, known for her profound connection to the landscapes and lifestyles of the American West. Her artwork captures the West with a focus on subtleties in color and tone.
Born and raised near Dallas, Texas, Evans' own journey into art began with still life paintings of fruits and flowers, a foundational practice that honed her skills and piqued her interest in pursuing art professionally. The transition to painting the human figure came from attending workshops focused on this challenging subject. Grounded in the belief that mastering figure painting opens the door to a broader range of artistic expression. Her signature technique of negative space, a method that involves selectively removing elements of the landscape to highlight the subject, has become a hallmark of her current work.
An advocate for painting from life, Evans engages in plein air painting to invigorate her studio work and to connect with the West's history and rugged landscapes. Her efforts have earned her finalist status in the Portrait Society of America Member’s Only Competition, acceptance to The Charlie Russell Auction, and representation by Cassens Fine Art, and Ballard’s Fine Art. Coila Evans' art is a vibrant testament to the enduring beauty and independent spirit of the Western United States.
